A tragic workplace murder has rocked the Detroit metro area after a beloved McDonald’s shift manager, Jennifer “Jamma” Harris, was brutally stabbed to death by a disgruntled employee she had sent home just hours earlier.

The 39-year-old mother of six was attacked inside the McDonald’s on 9 Mile Road around 8 a.m., Thursday, July 10, after a verbal argument earlier in the shift led her to dismiss the suspect—later identified as Afeni Muhammad, a local woman who calls herself “Risen Phoenix” on social media.

The Attack

Eastpointe Police say the 26-year-old suspect returned to the restaurant armed with a kitchen knife, wearing a mask. She walked in and stabbed Harris multiple times in front of customers and staff.

A licensed concealed carry customer fired a warning shot during the attack, which helped stop the suspect until police arrived. The shot did not injure anyone.

Sadly, Harris died from her injuries at the scene. Her devastated daughter, Antonia Griffin, told WXYZ:

“My mama died trying to take care of us. She didn’t deserve this. She was the best mom anybody could ever ask for.”

The Suspect: “Risen Phoenix” Speaks Before the Kill

Just days before the deadly stabbing, Afeni Muhammad (aka Risen Phoenix) posted a video on Instagram complaining about being sent home from work and feeling disrespected.

She also posted vague captions about being mistreated at work, which now seem chilling in hindsight.

Arrest & Charges

Police arrested Muhammad at the scene. She is being held without bond and expected to face first-degree murder charges. The Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office is actively reviewing the case.

The restaurant has temporarily shut down operations out of respect for Harris’s family and ongoing investigations.
