Pinehurst police shooting during house fire
A man was fatally shot by Pinehurst police officers on Wednesday morning while responding to a house fire on Remington Lane in the Village Acres neighborhood. The shooting unfolded around 7:45 a.m. when officers were dispatched following reports of a suspicious individual in the area.
Upon arrival, law enforcement observed smoke coming from a residence and requested the fire department, as reported by ABC 11. However, as firefighters worked to control the fire, a man came from the home wielding an ax and aggressively charged toward both fire and police personnel.
Officers attempted to neutralize the threat using non-lethal methods, but their efforts were unsuccessful. As the man continued to advance, two officers discharged their firearms, striking him. Emergency medical services transported the individual to a nearby medical facility, where he was later pronounced dead.

Authorities have not yet released the deceased’s identity, pending notification of next of kin. No injuries were reported among law enforcement or fire department personnel involved in the incident.
As per standard protocol in officer-involved shootings, the North Carolina news State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) has taken charge of an independent review to determine the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting.
