CONCORD, N.C. — A local Concord mother, community advocate, and Democratic candidate for North Carolina House District 73 died unexpectedly, according to the North Carolina Democratic Party.
Kim Delaney, who was actively campaigning for the District 73 seat, passed away Monday afternoon, January 26, 2026, at approximately 2:05 p.m., party officials confirmed. She was surrounded by family at the time of her passing.
Just days earlier, Delaney’s campaign announced that she was temporarily stepping back from public activity due to medical concerns, asking supporters to respect her privacy as she focused on her health and recovery.
Kim Delaney Remembered as a Devoted Mother and Community Advocate
In a statement released by the North Carolina Democratic Party, Delaney was remembered not only as a political candidate, but as a deeply compassionate woman rooted in service and community.
“We are deeply saddened to share the passing of Kim Delaney of Concord, a candidate for North Carolina House District 73, who passed away unexpectedly on January 26, 2026,” the statement read.
Party officials confirmed Delaney leaves behind two children, describing her as a devoted mother whose family was the center of her life.
“Kim was a kind, sincere, and caring person who believed in community and in showing up for others,” the party added.

Campaign Update Preceded Tragic News
On January 23, Delaney’s campaign team shared a public update announcing she would be temporarily suspending campaign activity due to unforeseen medical circumstances. At the time, no further details were provided out of respect for her privacy.
Delaney’s family has established a Spotfund fundraiser to help cover funeral expenses and provide support for her children during this difficult time. Donations are already pouring in from community members, supporters, and fellow advocates across North Carolina.
The family has asked for continued prayers, privacy, and grace as they navigate this sudden loss.
