Jacksonville NC Hit-and-Run: Red SUV Sought After Man Killed on U.S. 17
JACKSONVILLE, N.C. – The Jacksonville Police Department is hunting for a driver who allegedly hit a man, kept going, and never looked back.
According to the department, officers rushed to a horrific scene around 9:40 p.m. on U.S. 17 near Evergreen Drive, where a man was found lying in the roadway after being struck by multiple vehicles.
Police identified the victim as Edgar Ivan Solis, a man visiting from Kentucky. Tragically, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
STRUCK… THEN STRUCK AGAIN
According to a press release investigators say Solis was crossing U.S. 17 when he was hit by an initial vehicle that remained on scene. But moments later — before first responders could even arrive — two additional vehicles reportedly struck him.
One of those drivers? Gone.
Police say that vehicle is believed to be a small red SUV that fled southbound on U.S. 17 toward Onslow Drive, leaving behind devastation — and a family now facing the worst phone call imaginable.
This case an active and ongoing investigation.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about a red SUV to come forward immediately.
Tips can be reported directly to Investigator Ira Patterson or anonymously through Crime Stoppers, which is offering up to $5,000 in cash rewards for information that helps law enforcement.
