Shamiar Carter, 40, is behind bars after allegedly shooting and killing 24-year-old Ja’neta Teiona Wynn in Henderson, North Carolina, on Tuesday afternoon, December 3, 2024. According to local authorities, the tragic incident followed a physical altercation between the two women.
The Henderson Police Department responded to a shooting at approximately 4:15 p.m. on the 800 block of Vance Street. Upon arriving at the scene, officers found Wynn shot. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, Wynn died shortly after arriving.
Authorities stated that Carter, a resident of Henderson, was arrested after investigators gathered information about the altercation, which involved several individuals. It was determined that the dispute escalated, leading Carter to discharge a firearm, striking Wynn.
A firearm was recovered from the scene, along with other evidence related to the shooting. Carter has been charged with one count of felony murder and remains incarcerated at the Vance County Jail without bond.
The North Carolina Beat has also obtained video footage of the incident believed to be the fatal one. While the details remain unclear, Carter can be seen wearing a white shirt in the video. Towards the end, the woman seen wielding the bat is reported to be Wynn. She is shot and then the video ends.
