Welfare Check Turns Deadly After Greenville Man Accused of Killing His Mother
GREENVILLE, N.C. – A Pitt County neighborhood has been rocked by a disturbing family tragedy after police say a man is accused of killing his own mother.
Authorities have arrested Demetrius Williams, 54, in connection with the death of his 76-year-old mother, Dessie Mae Williams. Williams was taken into custody on December 17 in Wilson and transported to the Pitt County Detention Center, where he remains locked up.
Greenville police say officers were dispatched to a home on West Third Street in the Moyewood neighborhood on the evening of December 13 to conduct a welfare check. When they arrived, Dessie Mae Williams was found deceased and pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators say conditions inside the home immediately raised red flags.
Williams is now facing a murder charge along with felony interference with a monitoring device, according to court records.
Williams made his first court appearance virtually at the Pitt County Courthouse. Prosecutors revealed that Williams has a lengthy criminal history, including prior convictions for drug offenses and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.
Demetrius Williams remains held at the Pitt County Detention Center. He has been denied bond on the murder charge.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have not released additional details about the circumstances surrounding Dessie Mae Williams’ death.
