According to the Goldsboro Police Department, officers were first called to UNC Health Wayne on October 16 for a possible child abuse report.
Investigators discovered the victim, a young 5-year-old boy, had suffered severe injuries.
The child was immediately transferred to ECU Health for more advanced treatment, but officials say he tragically died from his injuries.
On October 24, detectives obtained a warrant for 30-year-old Kenneth Robinson Jr., charging him with murder in connection to the child’s death.
Robinson was arrested on Monday in the 1400 block of Wayne Memorial Drive. Police say he was served on his outstanding warrant and booked into the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office jail.
Investigators have not released the boy’s name at this time.
The case remains under investigation.
