Frezja Baker Murder: Suspect Lorenza Inman Jr. Charged After Body Found Behind Charlotte Church

CHARLOTTE, N.C.– An arrest has been made in the tragic death of a missing Charlotte mother whose body was discovered behind a west Charlotte church Thursday.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police announced Friday, December 12, that 38-year-old Lorenza Inman Jr. has been charged in connection with the killing of 31-year-old Frezja Baker, a mother of a young child who had been missing for more than a week.

According to police, Baker was found dead inside her car, which was parked behind a church near Sanders Avenue in west Charlotte. Authorities later confirmed the vehicle belonged to Baker .

Inman now faces murder, assault on a female, and misdemeanor domestic violence charges. CMPD says he was arrested in Maxton, North Carolina, before being transferred into the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.

CAR DISCOVERED BEHIND CHURCH

Police first revealed on Thursday, December 11, that they were investigating a death near a church at the corner of Sanders Avenue and Campus Street, just off Beatties Ford Road.

At the time, sources confirmed a car was involved, but investigators had not yet publicly identified the victim. By Friday morning, authorities confirmed the body found inside the vehicle was Frezja Baker.

A MOTHER WHO NEVER MADE IT HOME

Baker was officially reported missing on Thursday, December 4, after her family realized something was wrong.

According to relatives, Baker—who was the mother of a 2-year-old son—was last seen near Lasalle and Newcastle Streets just before 10 p.m. that night. Earlier, she had dropped her child off with grandparents following a dentist appointment.

Her brother told reporters that Baker called him around 10:30 p.m., saying she was about an hour away. She never arrived.

By the next day, Baker’s phone began going straight to voicemail. Family members grew alarmed when she failed to call to check on her son—something they say she never missed.

The investigation remains ongoing.
