Fourth Arrest Made In Rocky Mount Double-Homicide

Another suspect is behind bars after authorities made a fourth arrest in the fatal double shooting that left 19-year-old Ryo Steele and 20-year-old La’Ren Dickens dead earlier this month.

Just before 3 a.m. on Saturday, July 13, gunfire erupted in the 800 block of Virginia Street near Martin Luther King Jr. Park in Rocky Mount. When police arrived, they found Steele and Dickens suffering from gunshot wounds—both were pronounced dead at the scene.

 Who’s Been Charged So Far?

Three suspects were previously arrested and charged in connection to the double homicide:





  • Devonte Dales, 22 – Charged in the death of Ryo Steele

But the case took another turn this week.

NEW ARREST: Keyvonte Tyson

On Sunday, July 21, Rocky Mount police apprehended 19-year-old Keyvonte Keyshawn Tyson at Baber Court. He’s now facing first-degree murder charges and is being held without bond at the Edgecombe County Jail.

Fourth arrest made in double murder
19-year-old Keyvonte Keyshawn Tyson has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection to the Rocky Mount shooting deaths of Ryo Steele and La’Ren Dickens.

Police say Tyson was directly involved in the deadly shooting, working alongside the other three men already in custody.

The Rocky Mount Police Department says the investigation remains ongoing and encouraged anyone with additional information to contact them directly or anonymously reach out to Twin County Crime Stoppers.
