A North Carolina grandmother has been charged with first-degree murder after allegedly starving her 5-week-old grandson to death, according to warrants obtained by The North Carolina Beat.
The Shocking Allegations
54-year-old Cornelia Moore was arrested Wednesday, July 16, and charged with First-degree murder, and Intentional child abuse with serious injury.
Deputies say the baby died under Moore’s care.

What the Warrants Say
On May 4, deputies responded to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center after the baby was brought in and later died. An autopsy confirmed the infant’s cause of death was homicide.
Warrants claim Moore deprived the baby of food and liquids necessary for survival, directly causing the child’s death.
Moore was taken into custody and is currently being held without bond at the Cumberland County Detention Center.
Her next court date is scheduled for August 6.
