Curfew For Teens In Effect In Fayetteville

The streets of Fayetteville ‘bout to get a whole lot quieter at night, especially for teens 16 and under. On Tuesday, July 9, 2025, the city’s new Youth Protection Safety Ordinance went into full effect—and officials not playin’ with it either.

What Time To Be In The House?

The curfew kicks in every night from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. for anyone 16 or younger unless they’re with a parent or guardian, or on a legit errand or emergency run.

This ordinance ain’t for play-play—it’s part of a city push to curb youth violence, keep young folks safe, and stop parents from lettin’ their kids roam the streets all hours of the night.

Police Already Gearing Up

The Fayetteville Police Department been training for weeks on how to handle the rollout. First-timers out past curfew won’t get locked up—yet. Officers plan to issue verbal warnings, contact parents, and in some cases, take the teen to the station until they’re picked up.

Citations will start flying if folks don’t take this seriously. If DSS can’t get in touch with guardians in certain cases, things might escalate from there.

Parents Could Pay The Price

Parents and guardians who knowingly allow their kids to violate the curfew could be hit with up to a $500 fine and charged with a Class 3 misdemeanor. The ordinance holds adults accountable, not the youth. City leaders say this is all about “protection, not punishment.”

Youth Programs Tryna Keep Kids Busy

The city ain’t just handing out rules—they putting money where the mouth is. More than $15,000 was set aside for late-night programs like midnight basketball, mentoring sessions, and rec center events all summer long. These programs run from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., right before curfew hits.

Locations include:

  • Community Outreach Center

  • College Lakes Rec

  • Cliffdale Rec Center
