A 21-year-old Fayetteville woman has been charged after a street racing crash left three teenage football players dead earlier this month.

According to the Fayetteville Police Department, Dymond Nekiya Monroe was driving a 2024 Honda Civic on October 8, 2025, when she allegedly engaged in a high-speed street race with her sister, Destini Rhinada Genwright, who was behind the wheel of a Dodge Charger.

Investigators say Monroe lost control of her vehicle on Rosehill Road, crashing into a telephone pole and then a tree. The impact was catastrophic — killing three E. E. Smith High School football players on the scene:

  • 17-year-old Trevor Merritt
  • 18-year-old Jai-Hyon Elliott
  • 17-year-old Nick Williams

  4. Neither of the young women had insurance.

North Carolina needs to enforce drivers having insurance.

When folks have to pay for insurance, they drive differently.

    RiP three beautiful young men.
