Federal authorities have charged a Durham resident, 29-year-old Alexander Justin White, with conspiring to support ISIS, an internationally recognized terrorist organization, and attempting to join the group. The charges were revealed in court documents unsealed on Tuesday, January 14, 2025.
Using the online alias “Sulaiman Al-Amriki,” White reportedly expressed support for ISIS on his Facebook account between May and October 2024. Prosecutors allege White posted a video in July glorifying the organization and shared content promoting fundraising for detained ISIS members and their families.
Investigators claim White openly discussed his plans to travel overseas and join ISIS in online conversations, including exchanges with an undercover federal agent and a supposed contact in Morocco. He also filmed a video pledging allegiance to the group, which he shared with someone he believed to be an ISIS commander.

Court records reveal White purchased firearms and underwent training years earlier. Additionally, he discussed logistical plans for his travel, including what to do with his belongings and the equipment he might need, such as combat medical kits.
White’s actions culminated in him booking flights from Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) to Paris, France, and Rabat, Morocco, on December 4, 2024. Authorities believe he purchased a round-trip ticket to avoid suspicion. He was arrested at RDU by FBI agents at 7:50 p.m. as he attempted to board the flight.
White is charged with conspiring to provide and attempting to provide material support and resources to ISIS.
