Rocky Mount Shooting Leaves 2 Young People Dead

A quiet night turned deadly in Rocky Mount after two young people were found shot to death near Martin Luther King Park just before sunrise Sunday morning.

According to the Rocky Mount Police Department, officers were called to a shooting around 2:58 a.m. at 800 East Virginia Street, where they found two individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite EMS efforts, both victims died at the scene.

Police have identified the deceased as 20-year-old La’ren Dickens and 19-year-old Ryo Steele. Both were pronounced dead on-site.

Ryo Steele, 19, was one of two people killed during the Rocky Mount double homicide near MLK Park. Police continue to search for leads in the deadly shooting.

Ryo’s dad, Derrick Steele, went live from the shooting scene.

He also included photos of his son’s car that was shot up.

As of now, no suspects are in custody, and police have not released any details on potential motives or leads in the double homicide.
