Dominique Javon Thompson Arrest
A Bertie County man is behind bars after allegedly opening fire on sheriff’s deputies early Friday morning, May 16, 2025, according to the Bertie County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded around 1:20 a.m. to a report of an armed individual outside a residence on Weeping Mary Road. Upon arrival, the suspect—identified as 34-year-old Dominique Javon Thompson of Lewiston Woodville—allegedly fired multiple rounds at law enforcement officers, striking both patrol vehicles. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Following the gunfire, Thompson reportedly fled the scene in a white 2024 Hyundai Elantra, prompting officials to issue a BOLO (Be On the Lookout) alert to local, state, and federal agencies.
Later that morning, the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office located the unoccupied Hyundai. Shortly thereafter, the Kinston Police Department stopped another vehicle in which Thompson was a passenger. He was taken into custody without incident, and a firearm was recovered from the vehicle.
