The crash occurred during adverse weather conditions, with heavy snowfall and strong winds battering the region. These challenging conditions, including a snow-covered runway, may have played a role in the incident.
Following the crash, Toronto Pearson International Airport temporarily suspended all arrivals and departures, issuing a ground stop to allow emergency operations to take place. The disruption resulted in multiple flight cancellations and diversions, with some flights redirected to Montréal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport.
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada has launched a full investigation to determine the cause of the crash. Preliminary findings are expected within 24 hours, as authorities work to assess the factors that contributed to the incident.
