North Carolina Caregiver Arrested After Stealing Over $55,000 In Jewelry From Elderly Client

NC caregiver arrested stealing jewelry elderly client

Cornelius Caregiver Charged

A North Carolina caregiver, identified as Kathryn Actis, has been charged after allegedly stealing more than $55,000 worth of jewelry from an 84-year-old elderly client she was hired to care for.

According to Cornelius Police, the thefts occurred between May 9 and August 8, 2025, while Actis was providing in-home care services. The victim, described as an elderly woman, began noticing missing jewelry items only after several months.

Investigators say that Actis gradually removed valuable items from the home, including the victim’s wedding ring, high school class ring, and jewelry belonging to her late husband. An affidavit also said an Omega wristwatch, Baume Mercier wristwatch, gold and silver coins, and numerous other items comprised of precious metals and gemstones were missing.

Authorities discovered that the stolen items were sold to an out-of-state pawn shop in Westover, West Virginia, where they were melted down for gold scrap — a tactic that effectively destroyed the jewelry’s original form and made recovery impossible.

Cornelius Police charged Actis with Exploitation of an Elderly Adult and Felony Larceny.

I know Katy went to court on 12/1, I was wondering what the outcome of her trial was. Stealing from the elderly is the worst thing, she should have to serve serious time.

Please let me know of the outcome.
