Community Devastated After Columbus County House Fire Claims Lives of Four Young Sisters
A heartbreaking tragedy happened in the early hours of Saturday morning when a Columbus County house fire claimed the lives of four young girls–aged 2 to 7,—identified as Kendall, Kalani, Josie, and Sophia—at a residence on North Colony Road in Chadbourn.
The fire broke out around 3:00 a.m. while no adults were reportedly home. Two 12-year-old girls, initially reported as 11 years old, managed to escape the inferno and dial 9‑1‑1, according to Columbus County News.
Unfortunately, despite rapid emergency response, first responders were unable to save the younger children trapped inside.
According to authorities, a deputy and rescue crew who were in the area encountered the fully engulfed structure and were unable to safely enter the home due to the intensity of the flames.
A Community in Mourning
The tight-knit Chadbourn community has been left shattered. A growing memorial sits at the property’s entrance, decorated with photos, stuffed animals, flowers, and messages of love. The outpouring of support has been overwhelming.
A multi-agency investigation is now in full swing to determine the cause of the fire. The victims’ remains have been sent to the state Medical Examiner’s Office for official autopsies. Fire Marshal Shannon Blackman stated that more information will be released after he and Sheriff Bill Rogers hold an official briefing.
A GoFundMe has also been created by two local residents to support the family.
