A North Carolina high school wrestling coach has been suspended after The North Carolina Beat exclusively exposed a disturbing video that has now gone viral across social media.

In the now-infamous clip, D.H. Conley High School’s head wrestling coach, Matt Taylor, is heard using derogatory language, referring to a group of Black female students as “ghetto” and “b*tches.” The coach then flips the camera to show the girls he was talking about in real time.

SCHOOL DISTRICT RESPONDS

By Tuesday, Pitt County Schools confirmed that Matt Taylor had been suspended pending an internal investigation. In a statement, the district said they were aware of the video and taking the situation seriously.

“Pitt County Schools is aware of a video circulating on social media platforms which depicts a teacher using derogatory and offensive language to describe students. As a unified district, we understand the negative impact that the language used has on our families and community. Comments of this nature are not consistent with the values and standards of PCS. We strongly emphasize the use of words and actions representing respect, character, and compassion, and condemn those which do not.

“Because this is a personnel matter, the district is not in position to release additional information other than to disclose the employee’s current status as suspended until an internal investigation is completed. PCS utilizes a consistent and thorough vetting process in regard to all of its hiring procedures, which include background and reference checks, and any past transgressions by this employee did not emerge.”

The district has not confirmed whether Matt Taylor’s suspension is paid or unpaid, or if termination is being considered.

  1. awww I just see a group of teenage girls singing and having fun, which teenage girls singing and having fun is typical in all races. that’s what we want kids having fun and feeling safe at school. shame on this guy to try and label the girls.

  2. That “teacher/coach” acts like he has an extremely low IQ.

Either way, the video is enough evidence to dismiss him and revoke his teacher license. Please do so ASAP and let’s move on.

  3. He’s not teaching anything, and the kids are singing (not a ratchet song either). You recording & calling these teenage girls out their names. Suspension is too light…FIRE HIM.

  4. This is 11 second video without any context. Yet, this pathetic man, recording young women without their knowledge or consent, gets castigate and demean young, black women with a blanket assertion for a laugh. He deserves everything coming to him.

      1. You don’t need context when you say hateful and stupid things. If I called you are as a dumb azz don’t need context. The words our contacts from beginning to end.

    1. You’re incorrect. Those girls were just singing a song, a good song at that not a derogatory one. And it’s probably just free time…. this isn’t what teachings become, don’t judge schools as a whole because a video
