According to court documents obtained by The North Carolina Beat, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) officers responded to an “assault with a deadly weapon” call on Monday, December 30, 2024, at approximately 9:21 p.m. The incident occurred on Dave McKinney Avenue.

A 911 caller reported hearing gunshots and seeing a body lying in a public vehicular area. Upon arrival, police found Bittle, who had suffered multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Suspect Identified Through Surveillance and Evidence
Witnesses reported seeing a black Chevrolet Traverse driving through the area shortly before the shooting. They told police that Roth and another man exited the vehicle, entered Bittle’s dark-colored 2014 Mercedes-Benz C250, and drove away.
The stolen Mercedes-Benz was later discovered abandoned in the 300 block of Carolyn Lane, about two miles from the crime scene. Police found the car running and unoccupied, with multiple bullet holes, shattered windows, a slashed rear tire, and blood inside the vehicle.
Cell Phone Data Reveals Key Evidence
Detectives conducted a forensic analysis of Bittle’s cell phone, revealing communications between him and a phone number linked to Roth. Text messages leading up to the murder showed the two arranging a drug sale involving a quarter pound of marijuana.
According to court documents, Roth sent a photograph of herself to Bittle as part of the exchange. Just minutes before the shooting, Bittle texted Roth at 9:00 p.m., stating he was “10 out.” The first reports of gunfire came at 9:15 p.m.
