Benson Man Accused of Robbing His Own Mother During Domestic Dispute

Benson man is accused of snatching his mother’s phone, bank cards, and ID as she tried to call 911 for help.

BENSON, N.C. – A North Carolina man is charged after authorities say he allegedly ran off on the one person who gave him life — his own mother.

36-year-old Otis Jikeam Giles Jr. was arrested by the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office after a heated domestic dispute reportedly turned into an all-out robbery inside his mom’s home.

According to arrest warrants, the alleged incident went down back on Nov. 10, when Giles is accused of snatching his mother’s cell phone, driver’s license, credit card, and debit card during the argument. When the 60-year-old victim tried to call 911 for help, deputies say Giles allegedly ripped the phone right out of her hand and took off with all her personal belongings.

Ten days later, on Nov. 21, officers tracked Giles down and took him into custody.

He now faces a felony common law robbery charge along with a misdemeanor charge for interfering with emergency communications.

Giles was booked into the Johnston County Detention Center, and has since posted bond.

Stealing from strangers is wild enough — but stealing from your own mother? Sheesh.
