Vanity Rubystine Williams, 31, has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder and felony child abuse following the tragic death of her 4-year-old niece, Stormy, in Cabarrus County.
Late Tuesday night authorities were called to the 1600 block of Old Rivers Road. Stormy had been staying with her aunt since October, but by midnight, she was found unresponsive and later pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the family, a preliminary autopsy revealed the cause of death to be blunt force trauma, and just two days later, Williams was arrested and charged with the murder of her young niece.
It’s still unclear exactly what led up to Williams allegedly committing this heinous act.
A Family Left in Grief
The tragic death has left Stormy’s family in shock and grief. Her grandmother, Tia Sanders, expressed her pain in a heart-wrenching statement to local reporters:
“I’m coping, but it’s hurting so bad that it’s not even words that can describe the fact that I will never get to see my granddaughter get to kindergarten,” Sanders said.
“I won’t get to see her have another birthday. I won’t get to see her do anything else, hear her laugh, hear her joke… nothing.”
No Bond for Williams
Williams is currently being held in jail with no bond for the murder charge. She is scheduled for her first court appearance on Monday, where more details on the case may be revealed.
The death of Stormy, a sweet little girl with so much potential, has shaken the community, and the loss is being felt deeply by all who knew her.
