Police are investigating the mysterious death of 23-year-old Aaliyah Fortner, a nonverbal woman who was found unresponsive inside a Dallas, North Carolina home on Greenbrook Trail Sunday afternoon.
The home, according to police, is a residential facility for individuals living with developmental disorders. Investigators remained on scene through Tuesday, combing for clues as family, former caregivers, and the community demanded answers.
Police have not said how Aaliyah died or whether foul play is suspected.
The case is still under investigation, and an autopsy is pending with the North Carolina Medical Examiner’s Office.
