Husband & Wife Accused of Helping Cover Up Murder of 17-Year-Old South Carolina Teen
The fatal shooting occurred on April 13, 2026, in the 100 block of Goodman Road in the Beech Island area. According to the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to reports of gunfire shortly after 6:30 p.m. and discovered two teenage victims suffering from gunshot wounds.
Simmons, an Aiken County resident, was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 7:13 p.m. after sustaining multiple gunshot injuries. A 16-year-old male was also wounded and transported to a hospital for treatment.
As investigators worked to piece together what happened that evening, authorities identified suspects and announced several arrests.
Charged in connection with Simmons’ death are:
- Jared Grant Marsh II, 18, of Aiken, charged with murder and additional offenses including attempted murder.
- Tyler Hans Lariscey, 17, charged with murder and attempted murder.
- A 16-year-old juvenile, charged with murder, attempted murder, and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.
Court records indicate all three suspects face serious allegations tied to the murder of Simmons and the injury of the second victim.

Investigators later charged two additional individuals as accessories after the fact.
Authorities arrested Tarah Alexander, 40, and Bryan Alexander, 40, alleging they assisted in concealing evidence connected to the homicide investigation. According to law enforcement, the pair allegedly helped dispose of items believed to include firearms and clothing following the shooting.
Tarah Alexander is the mother of murder suspect Jared Grant Marsh II.
Grieving Mother Later Arrested on Separate Charges
Weeks after burying her son, Simmons’ mother, Shaniqua Simmons, 38, found herself facing criminal charges unrelated to the homicide investigation.
According to authorities, Simmons was arrested in June and charged with two counts of pointing and presenting a firearm at a person and one count of possession of a firearm by a person convicted of a violent felony.
Investigators allege the incident occurred in late April, just days after Kahlil’s death. Authorities say Simmons allegedly confronted two individuals believed to be connected to one of the accused suspects’ families and displayed a firearm during the encounter.
The charges against Simmons are separate from the murder case involving her son.
Remembering Kahlil Simmons
Born on April 10, 2009, Simmons had celebrated his 17th birthday only days before he was killed.
Family members described him as respectful, caring, and mechanically gifted. Loved ones said he enjoyed helping others and often fixed things around the house. Relatives also shared that he dreamed of becoming an engineer and was known for his kind heart and willingness to support those around him.
His death left a void that friends and family say can never be filled.
