DUPLIN COUNTY, N.C. – According to the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, 37-year-old Matthew Tart has been charged with three felony counts of threats against executive, legislative, or court officers.

Investigators allege Tart took to social media and made several threatening posts targeting Henry Stevens and Stratton Stokes, along with members of the sheriff’s staff.
Warrants state that Tart allegedly threatened to kill both the Superior Court judge and the Duplin County Sheriff. The SBI stepped in, investigated the online activity, and ultimately filed felony charges.
Tart is currently being held without bond and is scheduled to make a court appearance in Kenansville on Thursday morning, according to records.Â
