Heather Williams, a 25-year-old Fayetteville woman, was captured on Ring doorbell footage leaving her family’s home on January 4 around 10 p.m. She was seen entering a light-colored sedan with a sunroof. Tragically, just days later, she was found dead in a wooded area, only miles from where she was last seen.
Authorities issued a missing persons alert for Williams on January 7, citing her cognitive impairment. On Friday, January 10, at approximately 5 p.m., Fayetteville Police located her body in a wooded area near Newark Avenue and State Avenue, close to where she initially disappeared.
In a statement, police confirmed they believe Williams was murdered, and her death is being treated as a homicide. Family members expressed heartbreak, sharing with reporters that they did not recognize the person driving the vehicle Williams entered. They suspect she may have connected with the individual online.
Williams faced challenges with limited speech, limited use of her right leg and arm, and cognitive impairment, stemming from a car accident in 2015.
The investigation took a critical turn when police located the suspect’s car on the same day they discovered Williams’ body. However, no arrests have been made, and there are currently no identified suspects.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about Heather Williams’ case to come forward. Please contact Fayetteville Police Detective E. Alrafai at (910) 723-0327 or Crimestoppers at (910) 483-TIPS (8477).
