A North Carolina community is reeling after 13-year-old Emiliano Gutierrez-Boviall was fatally shot during a robbery over a $50 necklace.

According to Greenville Police, the shooting happened around 2:30 p.m. on July 25 in the 3800 block of Sterling Pointe Drive. Officers responded to reports of a shooting and arrived to find young Emiliano suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite efforts to save him, the 13-year-old died from his injuries.

Two Teens Charged — One as an Adult

Police say two teenagers are now facing charges in connection to Emiliano’s death. One of the suspects, Aiden Joyner, though a minor, is being charged as an adult.

Joyner was recently indicted by a Pitt County grand jury for murder and attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon.
