Houston synagogue attack plot uncovered as authorities arrest North Carolina woman accused of planning deadly vehicle assault on congregation.
RALEIGH, N.C. — An 18-year-old woman from Lexington has been arrested in a conspiracy to carry out a mass casualty attack on a historic Texas synagogue — with court documents laying out a horrifying plan to “kill as many Jews as possible by driving through a congregation.”
Angelina Han Hicks was taken into custody Wednesday and is being held in the Davidson County jail on a $10 million bond, according to jail records.
The North Carolina teen faces two felony counts of conspiracy to commit murder and assault at Congregation Beth Israel in Houston.
Davidson County Senior Assistant District Attorney Alan Martin revealed Tuesday there was “some concern that there could be an imminent event” targeting the synagogue.
In his Wednesday order, the judge wrote that the two other suspects — identified on the warrants only by their first names with last names listed as “unknown” — have not been arrested.
“The conspiracy is to kill as many Jews as possible by driving through a congregation at a synagogue,” Judge Terry stated bluntly. “Allowing a co-conspirator a chance to communicate with either of those individuals or those who could relay a message puts lives at risk.”
Martin confirmed Thursday he still doesn’t know if the two men are in custody — and the investigation is very much ongoing.
Houston police alerted synagogue leadership to the potential threat, forcing the congregation to shut its doors Wednesday “out of an abundance of caution,” according to the Houston Chronicle.
