Kellianne McGuire, a nurse formerly with WakeMed, finds herself in hot water after allegedly stealing 2500 mL of fentanyl from an IV bag.
Court documents reveal that McGuire had the means to access the potent drug due to her position at the hospital. It appears from court documents that she knowingly took the fentanyl, though her intentions—whether to sell it or use it herself—remain a mystery. Whatever her plans were, they have now come to an end.
A representative from WakeMed confirmed that McGuire is no longer employed there. Interestingly, she was celebrated in a 2021 employee newsletter for a decade of service and even received the prestigious DAISY award in 2019 for her exceptional work in the ICU.
Now, McGuire is facing serious legal troubles, with two felony charges looming over her that includes embezzling or diverting a controlled substance as a registrant or employee, and obtaining possession of a controlled substance through fraud or forgery.
