Four US citizens were kidnapped in Northeastern Mexico after crossing into Matamoros on Friday.
According to the FBI, when US citizens drove into Matamoros, they were fired at by unidentified gunmen and “placed in a vehicle and taken from the scene by armed men.”
The victims have not been identified, but authorities say their vehicle had North Carolina plates.
According to authorities, the victims crossed the border the purchase medicine.

The FBI said they cooperating with other federal partners and Mexican law enforcement agencies to investigate the kidnapping.
Matamoros is a border city with more than 500,000 people in the Mexican state of Tamaulipas, just across from Brownsville, Texas. Matamoros city is known for violence and organized crime. According to Congressional Research Service, it is the home of the Gulf Cartel, a once-powerful smuggling operation that has splintered into small, competing gangs.
The US State Department has issued a “Level 4: Do Not Travel” advisory for US citizens thinking of going to Tamaulipas, citing crime and kidnapping.”
