Trump Revokes Harvard Certification
The Trump administration has revoked Harvard University’s certification under the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP), a decision that could uproot the lives of thousands of international students.
Announced on Thursday, by Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, the revocation cites alleged ties to the Chinese Communist Party and a failure to curb antisemitic and pro-terrorist rhetoric on campus. According to Noem, the decision was made to “protect national security and uphold American values,” emphasizing that “hosting foreign students is a privilege, not a right.”

The move immediately bars Harvard from enrolling any new international students and mandates that current foreign students must transfer to another certified institution or risk losing their legal visa status in the United States.
Harvard, home to 6,800 international students, condemned the action as “unlawful, politically motivated retaliation.” The university is urgently providing legal and academic support to its affected student body and is preparing a lawsuit challenging the administration’s decision.

This development follows mounting tensions between Harvard and the Trump administration. In April, the administration threatened to withhold $9 billion in federal funding, accusing the university of failing to comply with new policy demands. When Harvard resisted, $2.3 billion in federal funds were frozen.
