An Ohio couple has been arrested and charged after school officials said their children arrived at school covered in bedbugs, with cockroaches crawling out of their book bags.
The story is disturbing.
Smiling in their busted photo, obviously proud about the conditions they had their children living in, 32-year-old Miranda Campbell and 39-year-old Jason Goodspeed were charged with child endangering.Â
Youngstown City School District officials said the children arrived at school covered in bedbugs. The school officials said the students arrived at school several days, and each time, they were given clean clothes to change into. School officials reported the May incident to the Mahoning County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies say they did a wellness check at the children’s home after they were notified about the children’s condition. Upon arrival, deputies said they could smell a “stench” from the sidewalk. After entering the residence, deputies said they found a large infestation of cockroaches and bedbugs that ultimately prevented them from entering the basement.Â
Several animals were removed from the home.
The property has been condemned.
During police interviews with Jason and Miranda, they told investigators that they tried to get rid of the bedbugs and cockroaches but couldn’t.
The children are in the care of a family member.
