A North Carolina man who was out of jail on pretrial release for attempted first-degree murder is back in custody after trying to evade a driver’s license checkpoint in Lenoir County on Thursday night.
According to WITN, 19-year-old De’Marie Gray attempted to avoid a checkpoint set up at the intersection of Field Station Road and Eason Road. When a deputy attempted to stop him, Gray allegedly fled at high speed, passed another vehicle in a no-pass zone, and ran a stop sign.
Authorities say Gray’s vehicle eventually came to a stop at a home on the 4000 block of Owens Family Road, where he reportedly ran inside. However, he surrendered to law enforcement a short time later.
After being taken into custody, Gray was booked on multiple charges, including:
- Felony fleeing to elude arrest
- Felony possession of a stolen firearm
- Felony possession of a firearm with an altered serial number
- Misdemeanor carrying a concealed weapon
- Misdemeanor resisting a public officer
- Multiple traffic violations

Due to Gray already being out on pretrial release for an attempted first-degree murder charge, authorities have denied him bond.
