On Friday afternoon, the National Weather Service in Raleigh announced that the tornado that claimed the life of Bryan Clenon Barnes in Lucama was classified as an EF-3, with wind speeds reaching 140 miles per hour.

Reports indicated that the tornado touched down in Lucama around 2:51 a.m. During its path, it damaged at least 10 homes, including Mr. Barnes’ residence, which collapsed on Lloyd Road.
Second floor of the home collapsed
Officials in Wilson County stated that the second floor of Mr. Barnes’ house fell onto the first floor. At approximately 9:15 a.m., a search and rescue team discovered Mr. Barnes’ body inside the wreckage.
Neighbors expressed their worries about Mr. Barnes, noting that his truck was parked in the driveway and he wasn’t responding to phone calls, as his bedroom was on the ground level.
Debris from the house, including personal items and pillows, was scattered outside.
The tornado was associated with tropical storm Debby, which was passing through the Carolinas.
