Lillington Cop CHOKES 12-year-old Kid While He Was in Handcuffs

HARNETT COUNTY, N.C. – A North Carolina mother is demanding answers after a disturbing video shows a Lillington police officer, Andrew Kesick  choking her 12-year-old son after detaining her 17-year-old son, leaving both boys injured.

Deonnia Lyon, the mother of 17-year-old Zamauri Chance and 12-year-old Carter Chance, told The North Carolina Beat that the incident happened on New Year’s Day while her sons were playing basketball at their godparents’ home in Vandercroft Farms.

According to Lyon, the chaos began after a neighbor called 911.

“She called the police department and said that there was a kid in a red shirt carrying a gun at the basketball court,” Lyon said. “So when the police came, he told them, ‘Hey, look, I had the gun, but I don’t have a gun on me.'”

Lyon says when she arrived on the scene, officer Kesick gave her an explanation that immediately raised red flags.

She was told that while police were speaking to the person in the red long-sleeve shirt, her two sons and another child began fighting — and that one of the officers was allegedly choked while trying to break it up.

But Lyon says that story doesn’t line up with what’s captured on video.

“He then proceeds to say ‘well, I don’t really know, I just know an officer got choked and officers pretty much started defending themselves,’” Lyon said the officer told her.

UPDATE: Chief Frank Powers Responds

Lillington Police Chief Frank Powers confirmed Monday that the department is actively investigating the incident, including Officer Andrew Kesick, according to The Daily Record.

“We are working diligently as we investigate and will leave no leaf unturned until we know exactly what happened,” Powers told The Daily Record on Monday.

In a separate statement provided to The Daily Record on Saturday, Powers outlined his next steps in reviewing the incident.

“I plan to interview multiple witnesses and review video from several sources on Monday, before I make any determination about the incident,” Powers told the outlet.

When asked by The Daily Record whether he intended to request assistance from an outside law enforcement agency to review the matter, Powers said he did not believe that was necessary.

“At this time, I think we will be able to handle the investigation ourselves. I see no need for additional help,” Powers said.

Officer Kesick reportedly claimed that Carter “squared up” with him. However, the video appears to show Carter sitting on the ground with his hands behind his back before the officer used force.

“HE SAID MY SON DIDN’T LOOK 12”

Lyon says the situation escalated further when she questioned Officer Kesick about why he slammed her youngest son.

According to Lyon, the officer became upset and dismissed her concerns.

She says he told her her son didn’t look 12.

“That doesn’t matter,” Lyon said. “You got a call for a specific person but you target three Black children.”

Lyon shared photos with The North Carolina Beat showing the injuries her sons sustained during the incident.

She says Zamauri required five stitches to his earlobe after being handled by two officers before Officer Kesick placed him in handcuffs.

Well, well, well…..another small town bully who couldn’t wait to throw his weight around. Sadly, this crap will cost Lillington a bunch of money. And probably wont pony up a ent. Wayne Coats will probably hire him as a deputy. The guy went from one small cop shop, to an even smaller one. Sounds like a jobhopper with a checkered past.

  2. Well, just wait until the dust settles and the truth will be revealed as usual. Since some can’t seem to see or accept what the main issue is in this video, then just wait until the town of Lillington is done fighting this case. Why a detained person, sitting on the ground, while talking, is tackled and hands placed around their neck while still on the ground? Wait

This is another prime example why the race card has space to rise his head once again. Which is also another current reason, in this 21st century, some can’t just drop the race card already, and move on already. Way to many incidents still occurring that keeps reopening the horrific wounds and scars that prevent some folk from truly healing..smh
For some, not all, it’s like living with PTSD with reoccurring triggers…

  3. I worked with Officer Kesick. He was a bad officer who left one department due to trouble and was then fired from another before going to Lillington PD

    1. I am the real Jared Ollison and this is unacceptable!! If you want to post about this officer use your own damn name!!! I worked with Officer Kesick and never had any problems with him. While I worked with him he was always professional. I’m sorry to see and hear about this!! Prayers for all involved!!! USE YOUR OWN DAMN NAME YOU SOB!!!

      1. What??? That officer is clearly UNSTABLE!!! He does not know how to control his own emotions and that is very clear. Physch nurse here and he should be ashamed so should who ever hired him.

    2. I have just learned that someone from the Wake Tech Police Department is utilizing my name to make negative comments on this post. The Wake Tech Police Chief needs to investigate and fire the involved parties!!

      The real Jared Ollison!!

    3. lol 😂 stop you know you posted both of them messages 😆 now you thought about afterwards or somebody said something… lol stop the cap

      1. Anybody knows me knows I stand by anything I say, dummy!! So that obviously wasn’t me, DUMMY!!

  4. Christopher Britt you are racist you see the obvious in your eyes but the ignorance in your heart is getting in the the way of the obvious, you can’t make up just how stupid you sound

  5. They were never in danger they were causing the danger that child was 12 years old you can clearly see his hand around the child neck while he is handcuffed behind his back. No one has to respect Some cop he came in with the intention of hurting young black kids. No child is to be questioned with out parent involved. The fact that they kept screaming he is 12 and the cop continues to assault his by strangulation. People like you swear police are never wrong. How would you feel seeing a video of your child being assaulted by someone in there late 20s early 30s attacking. A cops job is to descalate a situation to be able to do an investigation. They came in hot ready to arrest(assault) before confirming anything. You can clearly here someone say I told them it was me.
The call was for someone in a red coat for having a firearm. So why are police fully attacking young black me while the young white guy is standing there untouched.

  6. All I hear are kids yelling. Looks like 3 being detained. I can not tell if he grabbed him on his top shoulders or neck! But I am sure everyone has a side. You would have had to be there from the beginning to know the details.

    1. There’s literally a picture above that shows his hands around his neck while he’s cuffed. How do you not see it? You dont want to see it. Be honest.

    2. It doesn’t matter who was yelling, it doesn’t matter who was there. The fact of the matter is that child is sitting on the ground with his hands not only behind his back but locked, can’t move, unable to be freed, why because they are handcuffed‼️ Next you see the demon come and put his hands around his neck and choke him‼️😡😡😡

I don’t care what he said out his mouth. He did not do anything physically to warrant him, putting his hands around his neck and choking him. As a part of his training he is supposed to be able to ignore any VERBAL insults thats directed towards him. HE IS NOT supposed to let it trigger him to the point of choking, shooting, causing bodily harm to an individual who is not causing him any immediate harm.
I can call him all kinds of names that does not give him the right to choke me nor choke you or your two mother of two..

    3. Are you fkn stupid?? You watched the video and you can’t see that he choked that kid TWICE? It’s actually terrifying to know there are idiots roaming the earth with children of their own!

  7. Christopher Brett

I don’t see no choking. The call came in that there was a subject with a gun. Everyone there was combative. No respect shown to the officers, as well as being attacked from all sides. Reasonable force was applied to control the situation. I would be ashamed of my kids acting like this. The parents of these kids should not have had kids if they cant raise them no better than to disrespect law enforcement like this. The parents should have to sit in jail right beside the heathens that they raised. Wait until the officers cameras show the real danger that these police officers were in.

    1. First of all you don’t use no force while someone is in handcuffs. If you are an officer and you can’t handle words, you are in the wrong field. Second the called caller said the guy in the red shirt had a gun. You can see by the picture he is not even in handcuffs and not even bothered. But you know who are bothered the ones they profiled with the darker skin. So yes they angry, they have a right to be. How would you feel if police got a specific call for a person and he tells the police yes I had the gun and yet you sitting in handcuffs, you begin jumped on and choked by cops, and on top of that the one who had the gun and told the cops he had the gun the cops hadn’t looked at twice and hadn’t even put him in cuffs? Stop trying to justify wrong behavior. That mixed guy didn’t fit their bias eyes.

    2. as you can see once the KIDS were handcuffed, for NO CRIME, they continued excessive force.
You obviously didn’t read the actual article.
The person with gun admitted he had it but not when the police got there. These Tyrants, claim the kids were fighting, something kids do, & they literally left a possible armed suspect, uncuffed & free to retrieve the weapon, which hadn’t been located or secured, to break up a fight between unarmed kids.
You can the suspect saying “i told them it was mine, why are doing this?l”

    3. You see what you want to see.
Parents shouldn’t have kids tell the Republican Party that
they are their people that is against abortion. But when the child is born, they don’t care about the child or the mother. SMH !!

    4. So you didn’t see that officer put his hands around that childs neck while he was sitting on the ground HANDCUFFED?!?!

    5. The suspect was reported to be wearing a red shirt, yet none of the children detained matched that description. Instead, they were targeted because they fit a stereotype based on their skin color. That is deeply disturbing.

As a Black mother raising a Black boy, this hurts in a way many will never understand. Black parents live with a constant fear simply for allowing our children to exist and do normal things. White children and white parents are rarely forced to carry that same fear.

Policing rooted in bias and hate causes real harm. I pray for healing, but accountability is still required. This officer should be fired, and this situation deserves legal consequences.

    6. U don’t know anything ur talking about im actually the kid in the video in that’s my li brother he had no right putting his hands around my brother neck I thought cops was for de-escalation
The cop put me on my a*s bc of my skin bc he thought I hadda gun that wasn’t even the case

      1. Casey L Roberts

Hey I reported it to wral 5 on your side. I called back today to see why they haven’t they put it on the news yet. They asked me your mom’s name. I told them I didn’t know but they what to ask her if she wants it televised.

    7. The call was about the guy in the RED SHIRT having a gun. When the cops arrived on scene, they approached the BLACK KIDS lol. This is LILLINGTON NC for gods sake, racism is very much active. People are so disgustingly racist you are trying to justify this ignorance it’s hilarious! Hillbillies in the south are soooooo outdated lol NYC White(Italian Irish polish albanian Russian Jews) kids tell the cops to their face Suck My D***!! They actually HATE the cops and are told to stay tf away from them lol or you’re considered a RAT. What’s even more funny is that most of you hillbilly idiots voted for my Guy Trump and he’s already down here tearing down your trailer parks and taking your food stamps away! That’s why you guys are really mad lol that fake privilege is being taken away and you’re suffering! This mfr works as an underpaid cop in LILLINGTON NC he’s paid the same amount as phone handler at a pizzeria in Staten Island 🇮🇹 😂😂😂😂

  8. Concerned tax paying citizen.

This, ladies and gentlemen shows very clearly the makings of a racist killer cop! There’s absolutely no excuse for his actions, and should be relieved from duty expeditiously.
