Grammy-Winning Gospel Singer Le’Andria Johnson Arrested for Public Drunkenness in South Carolina

Grammy Award-winning gospel artist Le’Andria Johnson, known for her powerhouse voice and anointing, is once again making headlines—and not for her music.

Johnson was arrested Monday, December 16, 2024 and spent the night in the Greenville County Detention Center in South Carolina after being arrested for public drunkenness and having an open container, according to court documents.

According to VineLink, Le’Andria was booked Monday afternoon around 3:37 p.m. The incident marks yet another troubling chapter in Johnson’s well-documented struggle with alcohol. On Tuesday afternoon, Johnson was released from custody.

In a video she released, she thanked her supporters and shared that she is still battling alcohol addiction, describing it as a daily struggle.

“If y’all know me like ya know me… then you know this is a daily walk, and this has been a daily walk for me for some time now,” Johnson said in the video.

Details of Arrest

Officials in Greenville, told The North Carolina Beat that just before 3 p.m. on Monday, officers responded to BrickTop’s restaurant on North Main Street regarding a disturbance, including Johnson screaming at other patrons. Upon arrival, officers spotted Johnson walking on North Laurens Street while yelling profanities at a male walking with her.

Police Said Johnson Matched the Description

According to police, Johnson matched the description provided by the individual who filed the complaint.

Le’Andria Attempts to Hide Alcohol from Police

Police stated that when they stopped Johnson, she was holding a Styrofoam cup containing an amber-colored liquid with a strong odor, which she attempted to conceal. Officers also noted that Johnson exhibited signs of impairment, including slurred and incoherent speech, as well as swaying while standing.

Johnson was arrested and issued a $257.50 bond.

Fans will recall that back in 2019, the Sunday Best Season 3 winner publicly admitted to her battle with alcoholism, confessing that she drank daily without realizing the extent of her problem. One night, after leaving a bar, Johnson was arrested. Though at first, she managed to receive probation for that charge, she later violated it and served 30 days in jail.

In an attempt to turn her life around, Le’Andria even appeared on Iyanla: Fix My Life in March 2019, hoping to confront her demons and start fresh. But here we are, five years later, and it seems Johnson has found herself back at square one.

It’s heartbreaking to see someone as talented and anointed as Le’Andria Johnson allowing alcohol to steal her spotlight. With a voice that has lifted countless people closer to God, one has to know that alcohol can’t be better than JESUS!

  1. Be encouraged Le’Andria! This is not the end. Get the help you need and move under the power of the Holy Spirit. Life is not over for you.

  2. I hate that this has happened to her! Lord knows I really do! I love her and always have and always will. Some strongholds are worse than others. God can do anything but fail. If she’s concerned about herself and her life, then so is God! He’s able to do whatever she needs done in her life and He’s not nor will He forget her. If she’s that one sheep that’s gone astray, leave it to God. He will rescue her. He will be Glorified during this and after this. It reminds me of the men who asked Jesus , who did sin the child or the parents. God allows things to happen to us, so that we can get closer to Him. We shouldn’t be bashing her, but lifting her up in prayer. Isn’t that what the Bible teaches ? “When your bro/sis falls, then let those who are stronger lift them up, in the spiritual side as well as the natural side. We should only look down on ppl to lift them up, give them a helping hand. God bless all who reads this. 🙏🏽

  3. I could say put the bottle down Le’Andria, I also could say stop drinking, but who am I, we all fall short of God’s Glory! Keep pressing on sister and know that God will never Leave you nor Forsake you and know that I am standing in the Gap for you! Sing On! Sing On ❤️

  4. I just meet Le’Andria about 1 week 1/2 ago. We were staying at the same hotel I Rocky Mt. NC. We took a pic together. I nearly cried when I saw her, because her music helped me get through a rough patch when my daddy passed away. I always wanted to me the the songbird with the anointed voice. I pray that she still go get the help she needs because she’s still God’s child. Plus who are we to judge because we all have demons to deal with. God has already forgiven her as we should also. 🙏🏽

  5. Sad. Don’t let these lukewarm people keep you in bondage. Surrender wholeheartedly to Christ. Drunkards will not enter into the Kingdom of God. Get around strong 💪🏿 uncompromising people to help you before Judgement comes…. Firm 🙏🏿

  6. We all have our demons and battles to fight..knowing that God will never leave us or forsake us I’m sure is enough for her to get through this storm in her life again..sending prayers up for her🙏🏿🙏🏿❤️❤️

  7. Praying for you WOG!!! You are who God says you are!!!! There will be glory after THIS!!!!
I’m still your number one fan….❤️❤️❤️🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾

  8. She needs prayer, not judgement. None of us are perfect and we all have struggles. I am praying she overcomes this and comes back stronger and more anointed than ever!

  9. Prayers For You WOG🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾that GOD Will Give You What You Need. Because No Matter What GOD Still Have Need Of You🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾

  10. Praying for the for her.but let’s not forget how disrespectful she was to her MOTHER all I’m saying is you get in what you put out

    • We all have SIN regardless of what someone has done to another. We are not GOD to judge anyone just PRAY for one another and help her and ourselves to keep the FAITH in JESUS NAME. AMEN, AMEN 🙏 🙏

    • Clearly there is trauma here that probably still needs to be unveiled. I too was disrespectful to my mother as a result of pain and abuse that had nothing to do with her. Hurt ppl strike out in ways they can’t explain. Thank God my mom is now my best friend so I did NOT get what I deserved. God had mercy

    • You definitely get in what you put out. Ppl say she needs prayer and that’s fine but at some point we have to give in accountability for our own mess ups. She can do better but she has to want it. It’s up to her
