The Cornelius Police Department is mourning the tragic and sudden death of one of their own. Officer Gabriel Stainback, a newly sworn-in officer, was struck and killed by a vehicle while riding bicycles with his wife Saturday afternoon in Concord, North Carolina.

Officer Gabriel Stainback was a recent graduate of the Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) program, officially sworn into the Cornelius Police Department in December 2024. Described by colleagues as dedicated and passionate, Stainback had only just begun what many expected to be a long and impactful career in law enforcement.
