YOU’RE OUT OF HERE: ECU football coach Scottie Montgomery fired after third loosing season

A ECU football head coach has been fired.

“Scottie Montgomery has been relieved of his duties, effective immediately,” according to ECU Chancellor Cecil P. Staton.

Word On The Curb is that Scottie Montgomery was a “horrible coach” as you can see ECU has had a three-year losing season with him in position.

The decision came down after consultation with ECU Board of Trustees and special advisor for athletics Dave Hart. A source who heard about the meeting said Montgomery had no choice but to be terminated from his position. Rumor has it that Montgomery will not be coaching in the Saturday game against NC State.

With this news, Coach Ruffin McNeill has got to be rolling a blunt. (LOL)

Coach Ruffin McNeill

McNeill’s last three years at ECU:

  • 2013 (10-3)
  • 2014 (8-5)
  • 2015 (5-7)

Montgomery’s last three years at ECU:

  • 2016 (3-9)
  • 2017 (3-9)
  • 2018 (3-8)

In 6 years Coach Ruffin McNeill was (42-34) with four bowl appearances and ranked as 18 in the nation.

Under Montgomery, they were 9-26 with no bowl appearances.

It’s shocking that it took this long to relieve Montgomery.

ECU is searching for a new athletic director, and that individual will finalize the hire for Montgomery’s replacement. (Bring Coach Ruffin McNeill Back)

Staton released a statememnt about the decsion below:

“As much as we would have liked the outcome to be different, the progress of a program is ultimately measured by it’s competitivness, win total and championships. “It is our decision to move in a different direction with new leadership. He cared deeply for his players, was an outstanding mentor, and always focused on the word ‘student” in student-athlete. We wish him all the best.”

With this kind of negative attention and statistics, it will probably be hard for Montgomery to coach at another school unless losers are welcomed.
