A 26-year-old man is in police custody after he shot a 25-year-old one-month pregnant woman in the back of the head in Raleigh, North Carolina, Thursday afternoon.
The shooting happened at the intersection of Raleigh Boulevard and New Bern Avenue.
Police say, Maya Sherrod, 25, was shot in the back of the head and rushed to the hospital. Her boyfriend, Tyshaun Debman, says he believes road rage triggered the shooting and told local reporters that Sherrod was hit in the back of the head.
Raleigh police said as officers were headed to the scene, they saw a white Dodge Charger speeding on New Bern Avenue. Police say they notified Garner police, who saw the car driving on Forest Drive.
The suspect, 26-year-old Tyler Mack Kirby, is charged with shooting into an occupied vehicle, felony speed to elude, assault with a deadly weapon, and possessing a firearm by a felon.
As of Thursday night, he remains in the Wake County Jail.
Debman said his girlfriend found out that she was pregnant today.
