(Wilmington, North Carolina)- This is an attempted kidnapping gone wrong, however, I am glad that the woman accused has been charged for the simple fact that you can’t be out here in the streets playing with people lives.
Around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Wilmington police say they responded to a kidnapping in progress.
The suspect has been identified as Schnique Miller. Police say she flagged down a Port City Taxi on 16th and Market street and requested transportation to Jacksonville.
When the driver asked Miller for an address, she claimed she didn’t know off the top of her head and instructed the driver to begin driving while she looked for it.
Police say while the cab driver was driving, he became suspicious and told Miller that she needed to provide an address or he was going to stop and put her out on the side of the road. Miller told him that she had a knife to the back of his head and that he better continue driving until she told him to stop.
The cab driver told police that he never saw Miller with a knife but he heard a sound that was consistent with a knife opening. At that point, Miller began “talking crazy” and the victim feared for his life. He told police that he keyed up his radio in the cab so his dispatch center could hear what was happening. The cab company called 911 and reported their driver was being held, hostage.
The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Department located the cab and performed a routine traffic stop. Miller was detained. Police say she did not have a knife in her possession. However, the suspect admitted to having a cigarette lighter which may have produced the sound the victim heard.
