(Wilmington, North Carolina)– A Port City woman is behind bars Thursday after police say she tried to set a home on fire with people inside.

Her name is Jasmine Renee Leonard. She is charged with first-degree arson, and arson/burning certain buildings.

A press release said that police responded to the 700 block of Wooster Street around 3:40 P.M. Wednesday after receiving a report about a boarded-up house being on fire.

The fire was unable to be located at the original address given, but officers searched the area and located a gas can on fire and smoldering debris on the porch of a nearby home.

During the investigation, officers found that Leonard had started another fire on the back porch.

Officials say the home was occupied at the time.

Leonard is in the New Hanover County Jail under a $75,000 bond.
