Authorities in Jacksonville, North Carolina, say one student has been arrested after one student was killed and another injured at Northside High School.

In a press conference on Thursday, Jacksonville Police Chief Mike Yaniero said that one student was killed and another was wounded. Chief Yaniero said that Northside High School Resource Officers requested assistance at 7:01 a.m. for a report of a physical altercation and discovered that two students had been stabbed inside a common area in the school.

The school resource officer at the school was able to take a student into custody within 20 seconds of arriving to the physical altercation inside of the school.

Two students were taken to Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune where one didn’t survive.

Chief Yaniero said one teacher may have been injured as well but was treated by Paramedics at the scene.

The North Carolina Beat can confirm that the student killed was a male.

Police said next of kin of the victim has been notified.
