N.C. deputy identified after slamming teen to the ground

1 min read

A Harnett County, North Carolina deputy is in hiding after a video posted on Facebook showing him slamming a teenage girl to the ground went viral.

The State Bureau of Investigation revealed the deputy’s name Thursday as Brian Patrick Byrd

Byrd was suspended after cell phone video was posted on social media showing him apparently tackling a teenage girl after a call about a concealed weapon.

The SBI was called in at the request of Sheriff Wayne Coats and District Attorney Vernon Stewart

Byrd and another deputy were looking for trouble when they responded to the 300 block of Winding Ridge in the Carolina Lots neighborhood off Buffalo Lake Road after receiving a report of a person with a concealed weapon who was conducting illegal drug activity, according to officials.

Two teenage girls were using their cellphones to video the arrest of 17-year-old Tyrese Namirr Gary, one of the girl’s boyfriend.

It looked as though the girl that was slammed was recording Byrd’s face when he approached her and as a result, he slammed her.
