(Jacksonville, N.C.)– Two Jacksonville Police Officers were involved in a brawl after both men had a little too much Tequila in December of last year.
According to the police report obtained by The North Carolina Beat, Officer John Maiorano body-slammed his colleague, Officer Zebulon Sieger, at a home located on Angels Haven Road in Richlands, North Carolina on December 10, 2018.
Sieger filed charges against Maiorano at The Onslow County Sheriff’s Department and stated in his report that Maiorano “became very intoxicated after four shots of Tequila and became extremely angry for some unknown reason.” Sieger told deputies that he attempted to calm Maiorano down but without warning he was body-slammed by Maiorano. Sieger said he started having migraines and went to Naval Hospital where he was diagnosed with a concussion.
On December 25, 2018, Sieger said that he went to a neighbor’s house to have dinner and drinks. In his statement, Sieger listed himself as “BUZZED” after having dinner at a neighbor’s home. He told deputies that he and Maiorano were roommates and both were working the same shift at the Jacksonville Police Department. He said that he invited a Jacksonville Police Department dispatcher by the name of Megan Howe over to his place to watch a movie when Maiorano came downstairs upset over chewing tobacco.
In the midst of the two arguing over tobacco, Sieger put in his report that he told Maiorano that “It’s not like I’ll slit your throat over a can of dip.” Sieger said John responded back to him “I’ll just shoot you.” Sieger then told Maiorano that if he tried to hit him that he would kill him. According to the report, Maiorano then punched Sieger three times, knocked him to the floor, and continued the assault upon him.
Sieger said that after he was assaulted for the second time by Maiorano he went to his room and got his gun, walked back into the living room with the weapon pointed to the ground and told Maiorano to get his belongings and leave.
Internal Affairs (IA) at Jacksonville Police Department investigated the incident and advised Sieger that he could file a police report with the Onslow County Sheriff’s Department.
Officer Maiorano was served with a criminal summons on February 19, 2019, and the charges were dismissed by the District Attorney’s office on April 05, 2019.
According to sources, both Sieger, and Maiorano remain employed at the Jacksonville Police Department.
Sources also say that Sieger was disciplined by Internal Affairs for failure to report the incident when it happened. Officer Maiorano got transferred to a different shift.
