The North Carolina Beat received numerous complaints from customers about price gouging at a local grocery store in Jacksonville, North Carolina.
Piggly Wiggly, located at 2960 Richlands Highway, in the Southwest area of Jacksonville, is currently in violation of the North Carolina price gouging law, which has been in effect since March 11 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to one customer who spoke with The North Carolina Beat, she went to the store in order to pick up a few essential items and that is when she saw numerous products that were priced abnormally high. She informed us that not only had the prices on a wide array of items been increased quite a bit, but medical masks, that people, including medical professionals, are in dire need of right now, were marked up astronomically. The customer said that the store was selling INDIVIDUAL masks for $11.99 and boxes were priced at $49.99.
Another customer sent us a picture of the masks as well as Piggly Wiggly’s advertisement which is posted on each of the stores cash registers.
