1 min read

The Craven County Sherriff’s Office has set up a command post on Toler Road in Ernul as they continue searching for missing 3-year-old Casey Hathaway.

Hathaway was reported missing Tuesday afternoon after last seen around 1:45 p.m. His grandmother¬†told police that Hathaway apparently went into thick woods behind the home and never returned. Two of the children she¬†was watching came back inside, but Hathaway “decided” to stay outside.

Craven County Sheriff Chip Hughes said they weren’t notified until about 45 minutes later.

Hathaway was not properly dressed for the cold, according to Hughes.

Officials say they are concerned about the deep water and sinkholes in the area.

The FBI has joined the search and investigation along with Craven County Sherriff’s Office, N.C. State Highway Patrol, New Bern Police Department, Pamlico County Sheriff’s Office K9’s, NC Wildlife Resources, and the SBI.

True Justice Warriors, an organization that helps find missing children have started a Facebook group to help locate the missing 3-year old. (Click HERE to join)
